The project limits include Midway Road from east of the Turnpike Bridge to east of South 25th Street, a distance of approximately 2.2 miles, and Selvitz Road from 2,000 feet south of Midway Road to 2,000 feet north of Midway Road, a distance of less than 0.8 miles. Midway Road will be widened from the existing two lanes to four lanes, including transitions connecting the four-lane section to the existing two-lane sections at the east and west ends of the project. Selvitz Road will be widened from the existing two lanes to four lanes, including transitions connecting the four-lane section to the existing two-lane sections to the north and south ends of the project.

The existing typical section is predominantly a two-lane, undivided rural roadway. In the segment beginning at South Jenkins Road/Milner Drive to just east of New Horizons of the Treasure Coast, a continuous left turn has been added. And, at the east end of the project at South 25th Street, the typical section is that of a four-lane divided urban roadway on all four legs of the intersection.

There are currently no sidewalks or provisions for pedestrians or bicycles along the route.

Parallel to Midway Road, and abutting the south Right-of-Way line, is Canal 103. The canal is a principal receiving body for the project area and conveys stormwater from the west side of the Florida’s Turnpike, crossing under the Turnpike through an existing concrete box culvert.

The canal abuts the road right-of-way for about 1-3/4 miles; for that length, the south frontage is occupied by the canal – the only turnouts are three public streets and a driveway. East of Dunn Road, the canal diverges from Midway Road and continues southeasterly to discharge into the North Fork of the St. Lucie River.

The project consists of the construction of a proposed urban typical section that utilizes one 12-foot wide inside through travel lane and one 16-foot wide outside through travel lane in each direction of travel separated by a landscaped median, and providing at least one 6-foot wide concrete sidewalk. The project also includes the signalization of at least two intersections (Selvitz Road and South 25th Street) and the construction of off-site stormwater ponds.

Sidewalk ramps will be provided at all curb returns, in conformance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. These will include details such as standard widths, slopes and cross-slopes, detectable warning surfaces, crosswalk markings and pedestrian detectors and signals. All other pedestrian accessible-surfaces, such as driveways, will be carefully designed to avoid steep slopes and dropoffs.
